Authors Julie Carrick Dalton and Christen Civiletto will discuss their environmental writings and what readers can do to promote the conservation of our natural resources.

Julie Carrick Dalton is an award-winning novelist, environmental advocate, and climate communicator whose work lives at the  intersection of art and science. A former beekeeper and organic farmer, she is a frequent speaker on the topic of writing fiction in the age of climate crisis and is a member of the teaching faculty at Drexel University’s MFA Program. Her new novel, The Forest Becomes Her, explores humanity’s connection to the land through the lens of women’s lives—from puberty to fertility to menopause—while tracing the deep bonds between their generations and the natural world.

Christen E. Civiletto is an environmental lawyer, author and law school adjunct at SUNY Buffalo Law. She earned her law degree from Vanderbilt Law School and has spearheaded litigation on behalf of hundreds of sick Niagara County residents in high-profile toxic tort cases against municipalities and major chemical polluters. Her new book, Thundering Waters: The Toxic Legacy of Niagara Falls, interweaves environmental crime, history, and memoir, and exposes the astonishing story of exploitation and ongoing abuse lurking in the shadows of one of the world’s most treasured natural wonders.
