Creating a Nation: The Founding Fathers in American Art

From battle scenes to formal portraits, artists played a major role in defining the early history of the republic. Artists like John Singleton Copley and Gilbert Stuart helped to shape popular perspectives on leaders and the nature of leadership in a democracy.

 

Jane Oneail curates and delivers engaging art talks to audiences throughout New
England. Jane holds a master’s in Art History from Boston University and a
master’s in Education from Harvard University. She has worked at several New
England museums including the Isabella Stewart Gardner and the Currier
Museum of Art.
